On 26 October staff and friends of A Reaching Hand visited the Swop Shop, a recycle programme of an organisation called Freshstart that A Reaching Hand has started to support. This recycle programme encourages children in the community of Smutsville to collect recycled goods in exchange for clothing, toys and hygiene/sanitary items. The lessons learnt by these children are invaluable, such as keeping their community clean, working hard for the things you want, and most importantly, learning to SAVE towards that very special piece of clothing or toy that you so desperately want. The queue was very long as children lined up to have their bag of recycled good weighed, excited at the thought of what they could get in exchange. A truly wonderful organisation - well done Lida and Schalk and all your volunteers who help to make this possible week after week!
